Charles Stuart Harris .....London 1904
We are pleased to be able to offer these Exemplary pieces of fine Edwardian Silverware: A Solid
Silver Ink Stand and Well.
This is a Beautiful heavy fine quality Edwardian Solid Silver Ink Stand & Matching Ink Well, this
Handsome Standish was crafted by the Silversmith Charles Stuart Harris, it was Assayed in
London in 1904 making it 115 years old, The quality of the Ink Stand is wonderful, this has a
timeless elegance that would grace any writing desk or table today. the Ink Stand itself has such a wonderful elegant classic look with a smooth finish to the rectangle shape standish, this then has a square central solid silver frame with raised sides and gadroon decoration, this is to allow the wonderful glass hobnail cut ink well to sit snugly within, which as you can see has the same gadroon
decoration, the edges of the ink stand have also the most beautiful embossed gadroon decoration, all this then sit upon four very elegant scroll feet, but what makes this stand out more than most are the two amazing carrying handles to each side, again with same elegant decoration, this would
have been carried from drawing room to parlour. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this
would have once belonged to a very wealthy household and been used constantly as this was in a time when letters were written daily, in a time when things were so very different. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos don't do it justice, fully hallmarked.
